MESSI FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN
As part of fundraising for OGCDC (Office of Genetic Counselling and Disabled Children) a charity helping Vietnamese babies to be tested for hearing at birth, many adorable dogs will be parading at the HA Smith Park Reserve for the “Paws for the Hearing Cause” pet fashion parade and family day out.
Messi Ralph Pawren is a toy poodle, and has been nominated the mascot for OGCDC. Messi is a fashionista, tango dancer toy poodle and a strong supporter of his idol Lionel Messi the famous soccer player. He will be present at the event. You can follow him on Instagram as MessiRalphPawren.
Why a dog mascot?A dog's superior sense of hearing makes them a perfect mascot for this cause. Puppies are born deaf and cannot hear until they are 21 days old.
By the time their sense of hearing has developed, they can already hear 4 times the distance of a human with normal hearing. Dogs can hear higher pitched sounds and can detect frequencies that the human ear cannot perceive.
Dogs also have 18 muscles in their ears allowing them to move them in the direction of the sound. Perked ear dogs (such as German Shepherds) usually have better hearing than floppy ear dogs.
“Paws for the Hearing Cause” will take place on 19 November 2017 at the HA Smith Park located in the corner of Glenferrie and Gardiner Rd, Hawthorn Melbourne Australia.
