Organic Farm for adults with intellectual disabilities in Nam Dong mountainous district
Starting in 2003, OGCDC opened 8 special classes for 55 children with disabilities aged 5 to 17 in Nam Dong mountainous district. This initiative was very successful until 2010, when most of the children had grown up and decided to leave their studies in order to find jobs that matched their interests. However, young people with disabilities in Nam Dong district do not have professional opportunities suited to their needs. There are no specialized centers where they can receive proper vocational training, which aggravates their situation. OGCDC has professional staff specializing in this area, but lacks the proper space and facilities to develop job training and placement activities in Nam Dong.
The Organic Farm was implemented in July 2016 after 1 year of construction with the support of Aide Au Vietnam and the government of Luxembourg. This is the first center in Nam Dong mountainous district for people with disabilities. In residence are 20 young people ages 16 to 25 years, of whom 50% are ethnic minorities. In our farm, the young people can receive professional training appropriate to their needs. At the same time, 20 of them have a place to live and receive the necessary care for their mental and physical development. Activities include planting vegetables and raising wild boar, pork and chicken. The Organic Farm is a healthy and friendly environment for people with disabilities.
