Cleft lip and palate and other surgical needs

OGCDC has supported surgery for over 225 poor children with cleft lip and/or palate in the Department of Odonto-Stomatology, Hospital of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy from 2010 until now.

After surgery, families are supported by OGCDC’s speech therapists with techniques for feeding and strategies to develop language, speech and communication through parent workshops.

The average surgical fee for repair of cleft lip and/or palate ranges from $180 to $320 USD (not including speech therapy, food and transportation, especially for very poor families).

Other surgeries and support:

Common physical birth defects in children, such as hydrocephalus, cataract and inguinal hernia can be treated effectively with operations.

OGCDC has supported 1,802 such cases. Fees differ with the type of condition or disease. OGCDC provides support not only for surgery but also for transportation and accommodation.
