Newborn hearing screening is ABOUT TESTING NEW BORN BABIES for hearing loss

  • It aims to reduce the age of detection for hearing loss

  • Diagnosed children with hearing loss can receive early intervention such as amplification or cochlear implantation and or speech therapy.

  • CHILDREN who cannot hear CANNOT TALK

  • CHILDREN who cannot talk CANNOT LEARN in normal schools

  • CHILDREN who cannot learn CANNOT MAKE FRIENDS

  • CHILDREN who cannot talk CANNOT HEAR TV OR WATCH MOVIES.

  • CHILDREN who cannot talk CANNOT GET PAID JOBS when they grow older

Hearing and speaking opens the doors for the child to become an adult and be able to work, have a family and access all the benefits offered by the Vietnamese hearing community.

HEAR AND TALK PROJECT OGCDC  2016

Funding Fundamentals for the

“Hear and Talk” project

For this project to be a reality

OGCDC has initially set up a basic structure for implementing this project based on donations from overseas.

But the Hear and Talk team are desperately struggling for diagnostic hearing equipment. This is a problem when training the Vietnamese locals Screeners. This is our major priority.

OGCDC‘s FUNDRAISING goal is AUS$200,000 to acquire equipment for hearing tests to cover the large Central Vietnam area

There is no training in Vietnam for hearing screeners The trainees’ audiometrist technicians have no support or continual training. There is a need for an Audiology telehealth program to be developed.

There is an urgent need for volunteer audiologists to stay in Vietnam for long periods and train all audiometrist technicians onsite. Sponsors are needed to finance flights and accommodation of specialised and experienced audiologists, speech therapists and early intervention personnel such as teacher of the deaf to provide training to the whole team.

Flights and accommodation need to be subsidised by sponsors to help training of locals.

AIM: around AUS$ 100,000 per year for 4 trainers

Need to develop a HEARING AID BANK with hearing aids obtained through donations.

Many children are still waiting to be fitted due to the lack of funding

Creation of aHearing Aid and Cochlear Implant Bank.
